Algorithms become powerful as soon as we use them by reccomodations and the algorithm itself has no social power
What is the difference between discursive and material interventions?
material intervention: we use and develop algorithms
discursive intervention: society debates on impact, implications, reasoning of algorithm
What does the term black box society mean?
A lot of people use algorithm without knowing how they work (also true for other technologies, e.g. cars or airplanes)
People also don’t understand the principles on what an algorithm is based on (recommendation systems, generative language models, etc.)
What does the term technological unconsciuosness mean?
not being aware of the fact that their using an algorithm or are influenced of an algorithm
