New Criticism / Deconstructivism
number of correct inpretations: only one correct interpretation / several interpretations (even each time reading)
worldviews -> does not question external references or worldviews / all about dismantling previously held worldviews
meaning -> meaning is decidable (only one interpretation) / a text’s meaning is undecidable
history: roots in early 1900s / introduction of new method in 1966
looking at the pure text -> close reading; disregarding context / great error: search for a transcendental signified (external points of reference)
feelings -> avoid inclusing author’s or reader’s feelings in analysis (Intentional & Affective Fallacy) / no inclusion of any references from outside the text
relations -> search for tensions and interrelationships / all texts and ideas are composed of binary oppositions
