Because in the equator the sun rays that go through it is shining at a smaller area because the middle of the earth (equator) is very wide and the heat rays cant rap around it. But at a polar area since its the tips of the earth they’re easy to rap around by sunlight and so it does and most of it shines untill the range it can and stop around the tips of the globe ( the polar areas) and a little amount of sunlight is shining through the polar areas thus making them cooler.
