Incoterms
Incoterms (International Commercial Terms) are a set of standard trade terms widely used in international trade transactions that define the responsibilities of buyers and sellers for the delivery of goods. They specify the obligations, costs, and risks involved in the transportation and delivery of goods from the seller to the buyer, including details such as the transfer of costs and risk, the place of delivery, and the responsibility for insurance and freight costs. There are 11 Incoterms currently in use, and they are updated periodically by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).
The Incoterms rules (International Commercial Terms) describe the tasks, costs and risks involved in thedelivery of goods from the seller to the buyer. Reference to an Incoterms 2020 rule in a sales contract clearlydefines the parties’ respective obligations as to the transport of the goods and reduces the risk of legalcomplications. However, the Incoterms rules are only ONE element of a contract of sale, they do not dealwith the specifications of the goods, prices, methods of payment, transfer of ownership, jurisdiction etc
