What are the two differnet types of viruses?
DNA viruses
RNA viruses
Are Viruses living things?
All living things are made up of cells.
All living things show organization at a molecular and cellular level.
All living things use energy.
All living things respond to the environment.
All living things grow (or divide their cells).
All living things reproduce.
All living things show adaptations.
Viruses do not show organization at a cellular level.
They are not technically made up of cells as they have no nucleus, cytoplasm, or cell membrane.
They do not reproduce through mitosis or meiosis, but instead rely on a host cell to pass on their genetic material.
Viruses do not require energy and therefore do not perform cellular respiration (creating energy from different molecules).
What is the infection method of a DNA virus?
Viral DNA makes new RNA which creates more virus proteins
DNA may just embed itself in host DNA and create more viruses
What is the infection method of RNA viruses and Retroviruses?
Viral RNA finds ribosomes in the cytoplasm and builds its own proteins
Retro
Contains reverse transcriptase enzyme which switches DNA/RNA production
Creates new DNA from the viral RNA
New DNA then creates new viral RNA which codes for viral proteins
What is the Lytic and the Lysogenic cycle?
