Regeneration Framework
Left side: Net-negative
Right side: Net-positive
The emerging ideas about how companier can make positive contributions are related to environmental issues; not yet to social issues
For Reed’s regeneration framework, sustainability is a neutral point. Morover, the concept visualizes that most sustainability actions of companies are small steps and that there is a lot more that companies can do to increase their sustainability ambitions and help us stay within the planetary boundaries
Left Side
Here, the overall net impact of corporate activities on the environment is negative
Degenerative approaches: Only consume resources without trying to be ecologically efficient
e.g. reducing CO2 as required by law
Greening approaches: Aim at becoming more eco-efficient and reducing the amount of damage that is due to extensive use of environmental resources
e.g. reducing more CO2 by becoming more efficient
Middle
The middle of the spectrum is sustainability, which means that companies have reached a point that they are not doing any net harm to the natural environment -> positive and negative balance out
e.g. offsetting CO2 (controversial)
Right Side
Here, overall corporate activities are net positive
Restorative approaches: Focus on repairing nature to a healthy state so that it can renew on its own
e.g. capturing carbon techniques
Regenerative approaches: Design organizational processes to co-evolve and work with natura and foster the long-term health of ecosystems
e.g. Interface, not yet implemented
