Concious mind
According to Freud, the mind that is fully aware of the circumstances of our every day lives and makes important decisions about appropriate behaviour we should follow.
Unconscious mind
Contains information, memories, and emotions that we are not aware of but have a direct affect on our lives. Believed to be much larger in scope than the conscious mind.
Preconscious mind
The transition area between conscious and unconscious mind. Generally people are not aware of it but with some effort and concentration they may become aware of it.
Actual observation vs inferred observation
Actual observation- describing what you can can (movements, facial expressions, etc)
Inferred observation- making inferences on how the person is feeling (emotions, thoughts, etc)
Free association
A psychological technique where the person “talks out” the problems with the therapist.
