The Exergy of a system is the maximum useful work that is made available by bringing the system into equilibrium with its environment

• balancing the energy demand through various load curves (more efficient plant operation lower fluctuations for the distribution network)

• scale effects in energy supply (e.g. heat pumps)

• high potential of sector coupling

• relieving the load on distribution grids through intelligent use of local energies

  
  

District heating can be an efficient alternative to decentral conventional heat supply. Frequently the heat is produced in central heating plants. Hot water is then delivered to the consumers via a pipe system.

• heat transfer medium is usually water in a two-pipe system

• sufficient pressure difference between supply and return line

• operation below max. pressure

• Sufficient supply temperature at each consumer

• temperatures below safety limit

• supply security

• Supply temperature and provided heat output can either be constant (for weather independent consumers) or vary (e.g. for space heating).
