Characteristic expiratory grunting
Decreased breath sounds on auscultation
Cyanosis due to pulmonary hypoxic vasoconstriction

Signs of increased respiratory effort
Tachypnea
Nasal flaring and moderate to severe subcostal/intercostal and jugular retractions
